Do You Love Singing in a Choir?
We invite you to sing with us for the 2025 season, and experience with us singing under the direction of our new music director, Keri Boley.
HOW WE CHOSE OUR NEW DIRECTOR TO START FALL SEMESTER 2024
Following our Spring 2024 concert, and the subsequent retirement of our longtime director, Bill Tuzicka (2009-2024), the Salina Chorale Board launched a search for candidates to be considered for our next director.
The process included a careful assessment and screening process, including testing the two finalists to observe their choral directing abilities and their interaction with us in mock rehearsal with a group of our singers.
The end result was our offering the position to, and this offer being accepted by, Ms. Keri Boley, who is and will remain the director of choral music at Southeast of Saline (SES) schools, USD 306. We are thrilled to work with her, as we rehearse and perform choral music for our wonderful audiences. Your appreciation and warm reception are what makes the weeks of time spent and the hard work devoted in rehearsal all worthwhile.
(NOTE: Keri Boley's Salina Chorale director predecessor, Bill Tuzicka, also came to us with SES teaching experience, having himself run the choral music education program there for 37 years. This included the efforts to begin putting on stage musicals at the school. Many of his former students -- his "kids" -- have sung with the Salina Chorale for years.)
The Salina Chorale is committed to its 60+ year mission of singing together for the enrichment of our community and region, and for the joy of singing and making beautiful choral music together.
After a very successful and rewarding presentation of our sixth "Carols of Christmas" concert in the Sacred Heart Cathedral sanctuary which we presented on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at 6 p.m., we begin rehearsing in January 2025 (on a date to be announced on this page) for our spring concert planned for on March 23, 2025, at 4 p.m. on the stage at the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts.

COME AND SING WITH US
The Salina Chorale is a community chorus dedicated to the promotion of choral music, and it is open to all adults who desire to sing ensemble music.
High School Juniors and Seniors are welcome to be members provided they already sing in their High School Choir.
Freshmen and Sophomores in High School may join the Chorale if approved of by the director, who will determine if their voices are mature enough to sing the kinds of songs, and in the vocal ranges, that are required of the Chorale singers.
OUR HISTORY:
The Chorale is an outgrowth of the Salina Community Chorus, which was begun in 1961 under the direction of Mr. John Sample. The group was reorganized as the Salina Chorale in January 1979. The previous music director for the Salina Chorale, Bill Tuzicka, directed the group for 16 years, from 2009 to spring 2024, before retiring and moving with his wife Susan to Iowa to be near their grandchildren. This group of talented singers from the greater Salina community is now under the direction of Keri Boley.
New and returning Salina Chorale members have been gathering for our Monday night rehearsals at Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
Dues per semester are $40 per semester for all of the Salina Chorale singers, including high school and college students.
Our rehearsals will go from 7 to 8:30 p.m. without a break. We are asked to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to pick up music, help set out chairs and find a seat, listen to announcements from our president, and prepare to sing together.
Some rehearsals closer to the concert date will most likely go 15 or more minutes longer. And during concert week, we will try to rehearse in the concert venue at least one time in addition to the Monday rehearsal.
